What are the functions of I/O interface?

The functions of I/O interface are:
·         To provide a friendly platform between processor and I/O devices.
·         To provide necessary handshaking signals to the I/O devices so that processor can communicate with the I/O devices effectively.
·         To convert Serial data into parallel form or vice versa if different data formats are being exchanged.
·         To overcome the data transfer rates among the processor and I/O devices. As processor is fast accessing component and I/O are relatively slower.
·         To provide clear separation of one I/O device from another so that they do not disturb each other during I/O operation.
